COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Introduction to the economic analysis of development and growth policies.A special mention is put to the current globalization context and to environmental issues.
The first part of the lecture involves a study of the main development and growth mechanisms.Some topics will be more specifically deepened in the second part: environmental policies, the current global food crisis, resources scarcity, child labor issues, education and pro-poor policies.The lecture deals with the effect of the globalization process on development and growth. REQUIREMENT:Students are required to read the various books and articles recommended in class, available at the library. The use of internet can be asked.

COURSES GRADING:- Participation in class: it involves attendance in class, homework (summaries on readings, internet research, ...), quizzes in class on readings. (15 %)- A mid-term examination (30 %)- A final examination (30 %)- An individual research report (investigation and analysis of a particular development program or a specific development topic) (25 %)Absences and late arrival will be sanctioned.
