Full Description

The course will look at the relationship maintained throughout four centuries between the French writers , the countries and the foreigners.  From Montaigne to Le Clézio, each will be studied chronologically from 1492 (the year America was discovered) to the most contemporary.  From narrations of travel and exploration to works of fiction, all types of writing will be addressed: myth of “the good savage”, the orient, and colonization, discover Asia, Africa and Oceania.

Ce cours a pour objet l’étude des rapports entretenus pendant quatre siècles entre les écrivains français et les pays et les peuples étrangers. De Montaigne à Le Clézio, le parti pris est celui de la chronologie, le point de départ étant 1492, année de découverte de l’Amérique, le point final la littérature la plus contemporaine. Des récits de voyages aux œuvres de fiction, tous les types d’écriture seront abordés : mythe du « bon sauvage », orientalisme, littérature et colonisation, découverte de l’Asie, de l’Afrique et de l’Océanie.
