Full Description

The comparative context in question is that of a European academic approach to psychology in contrast to the behavioural/cognitive one more prevalent in the United States.

Thus human development is studied from a psychodynamic perspective, taking into account the unconscious mind and the inner world of the individual.

The course draws extensively on the theories of such psychoanalytic thinkers as Freud, Melanie Klein, Wilfred Bion and Donald Winnicott amongst others.

Overall the emphasis is on identity formation and the attainment of a mind of one's own.
