The Institute for American Universities (IAU) program is geared towards students who want to combine the study of French language with electives taught in English.

Semester/Academic Year

The IAU Aix Center is designed for students who want to take French language along with electives in French or English.  Courses taught in French are indicated on the course descriptions.

Students enroll for a total of 15 semester credits:

• 1 French language course (45 contact hours/3 semester credits)
• 4 Electives in French or English (45 contact hours/3 semester credits each)

At The Marchutz School of Art, students combine studio work, an intensive interdisciplinary art criticism seminar, liberal arts courses at the Aix Center, French language study, and excursions to European museums and cities such as Paris, Giverny, and Venice. 

Students take 15 semester credits per semester.

• French language (45 contact hours/3 semester credits)
• Drawing-MANDATORY (45 contact hours/3 semester credits)
• Painting – MANDATORY (45 contact hours/3 semester credits)
• Seminar –MANDATORY (45 contact hours/3 semester credits)
• Elective: Art or Academic elective (45 contact hours/3 Semester credits)

Summer

Aix Center: Students will select two electives for a total of 6 credits.

Marchutz School of Art: Students will take the following

• Painting and Drawing
• Art Criticism
• (Optional for no credit) Conversational French
