Study Abroad in Cannes, France - Academic ProgramAbroadco offers Academic Year, Semester, Quarter, Summer, and Short-Term sessions in Cannes. After arriving in Cannes, students take a placement exam to determine their language level. Students are assigned to one of at least 13 different language levels, to assure their placement in a level which corresponds to their needs. French Language CoursesAll students enroll in a French language course. Classes meet 15 hours/week, for a total of 60 contact hours/month. In the US semester system this generally transfers to 12 credits for semester students, 9 credits for quarter students, and 4 credits for one-month students. All language courses are taught exclusively in French. PhoneticsAll students also enroll in the College's Phonetics course. Students meet for 1 hour/week for a period of 1 month, for a total of 4 contact hours/month. This generally transfers to 1 credit for semester and quarter students in the US semester system. The class meets in an audio-equipped language lab, and covers both pronunciation and intonation. ElectivesSemester and quarter students may enroll in up to 2 electives/term. Electives meet 3.5 hours/week for a period of 3 months, for a total of 42 contact hours each. This generally transfers to 3 credits each in the US semester system. The electives cover a wide range of topics in French culture and civilization, and are available in both French and English. Topics include French Art History, French Society, Political Life in France, Literature, French Cinema, and International Business. Theatrical ExpressionStudents may also choose to enroll in the College's Theatrical Expression course. The course includes rigorous exposure to the oral expression of French through systematic and repetitive instruction and correction on aspects of pronunciation, accent, and linguistic rhythm. The instruction highlights direct use of intonation, idioms, and everyday vocabulary in theatrical situations and gestures. Each session concludes with a public performance.
