Course Description

The course aims to offer students a solid foundation in one of the most diffused media of the contemporary world: photography. Florence is an ideal city for photographic imagery, being a continuous pageantry of works of art situated within a diverse and dynamic architecture and unforgettable Tuscan landscapes. Students will be immersed in this world of imagery by walking tours in the Florentine landscape, including urban sights and historical monuments. Using the Florentine environment, students will experience a new culture through the medium of photography and its processes The focus will be on beginning black and white and color photo techniques including professional portfolio presentation and creative thinking.

N.b. : No digital cameras may be used.

Please note that darkroom experience is not included in this course.

Course descriptions may be subject to occasional, minor modifications at the discretion of the instructor.

Textbooks

Readings include, but are not limited to, selections from the following: To be determined.

Camera: A 35 mm Single Lens Reflex camera that can be set manually is required. Class members should bring the manual for their cameras.

During orientation at the Institute, students will receive a list of textbooks they are required to purchase. Students should not purchase any texts before orientation.
