Full Description

Course Description

This course aims to provide an interdisciplinary introduction to the culture of modern Italy, focusing primarily on Florentine authors in whose work the city of Florence is a major point of reference and vehicle of meaning. Interactive classes will stimulate students to develop both critical thinking and a sensitive approach to the texts they be reading.

The literary portrayal of Florence will be retraced in the places of the city itself, in various guided walks, and the textual material will also be compared to the film versions that have been made of several of the selected works.

Course descriptions may be subject to occasional minor modifications at the discretion of the instructor.

Textbooks

During orientation at the Institute, students will receive a list of textbooks they are required to purchase. Students should not purchase any texts before orientation.
