Going to the movies is an excellent way to hear the Italian language. It is always a good idea at first to choose a movie you have already seen in English as to follow the Italian more easily.

There are over 30 movie theaters in Florence, many of which are within walking distance of the center. To find out which movies are playing, consult the local newspaper.

Movies in English

There are two movie theaters that feature original language films.

  • Fulgor - Via Maso Finiguerra (Santa Maria Novella)
  • Odeon - Via Sasetti 1 (Piazza Strozzi)

Most films in Italy are shown with a 10-15 minute intermission, during which times people come in to sell popcorn, ice cream, and soft drinks.

Theaters

Florence comes alive with music, opera, and ballet performances not only in theaters but often in the main piazzas and in local churches. Events

Box Office is located on Via Alamanni, 39. The local Box Office Italia in Florence is the central ticket office for all local events.

Firenze Spettacolo is a monthly magazine listing concerts, exhibitions, new clubs, and discotheques. Lo Spettacolo includes a "Florence Night Map" with all the downtown "hotspots." The magazine is in Italian with only a small portion in English.
