Join the other customers standing on the road or squatting on the pavement for a liver-topped crostino, bruschetta with sweet red tomatoes and basil or a great slab of porchetta (rosemary-flavored roast pork) on a hunk of bread. Amerini
Smart but cozy with a gravity-defying display of the finest Tuscan wines, this is a lunchtime favorite for local designer-emporium shop assistants. Choose from sandwiches such as marinated artichoke or grilled vegetables with brie, or order a bowl of fresh pasta, but be prepared to find other customers placed at your tiny table. No credit cards
Fuori Porta
Just outside one of the old city gates in San Niccolò, south of the river, this is the most famous wine bar in Florence and as such nearly always full. The daily menu has a huge choice of crostini, pastas, vegetable sformati, and a range of nibbles and snacks to complement the wine.
Bar Curtatone
A vast but stylish café serving a selection of pastries, cakes, and desserts, as well as three-course meal (12:30 - 2:30 P.M.) Though it's always busy, service is efficient.
Rosticceria Spada
If you're looking for some cheap but still good take-out food, this is the place to go. You can have pasta or lasagne for €2.60, and fish on Friday. Plus, it's just around the corner from school!
