Full DescriptionDuring the semester Language and Culture program, the course is offered in both English and Spanish. During the summer Intensive Spanish Language and Culture program, it is only offered in Spanish. This course aims at covering those basic elements which constitute Latin-American culture. Questions which arise from different understanding of the contemporary reality of Latin-America. The fundamental aim is to gain a perspective on the complex reality of nations which are the result of a laborious process of culturalisation. SYLLABUS
ACTIVITIES As well as class lectures, the teacher will propose texts, newspaper articles, etc to be studied along with viewing or listening to material which contributes to a better understanding of the topics studied. ASSESSMENT - Attention and class participation will be up to 20%. - The presentation of short pieces of work will be up to 30%. - There will be two exams. One mid-term and the other at the end of the term. Both will count for up to 50% of the final mark. BIBLIOGRAPHY Given the course content the teacher will propose appropriate study material for each topic: selected texts, newspapers and magazines, audio-visual material, etc. Original Language Description1. IntroducciónEsta asignatura pretende explicar y dará conocer los elementos básicos que conforman la cultura hispanoamericana. Se abordan aquellas cuestiones que constituyen hoy modelos de entendimiento de la realidad contemporánea de Hispanoamérica. El objetivo fundamental es servir de acercamiento a la compleja realidad de unos pueblos que son el resultado de un laborioso proceso de aculturación. 2. Programa
3. ActividadesSe considera oportuno, además de las explicaciones de clase, la lectura de aquellas obras, artículos periodísticos, etc. que el profesor estime oportunos, así como la visualización y audición de aquel material que contribuya a la mejor comprensión de la materia. 4. Evaluación
