The course of Latin American Literature makes a brief introduction to the fundamental problems that are found across the five centuries of American Literature in Spanish language, as they are the dialectic civilización/barbarie, the uniquely American feeling of native nature, the definition of Latin America as a synthesis of three cultures (the native, the Spanish, and the African), the birth of different literary types, throughout the centuries of colonialization, etc. Having made that introduction, the course centers in the contemporary literature that in poetry begins with the vanguard, and in narrative culminates in the fabulous "boom" of mid-century. Several authors are studied in-depth (poets and narrators) and their works are discussed.
There will be two tests, one mid-term and one final, that will include all the distributed matter, including the matter covered in the first test. The students can do a work written, which will raise the final grade. The character of this work is voluntary.
