Velázquez and the spirit of modernity in thought, literature and art of the XVII century.
Ephemeral art and literature. Sermons, triumphs commemorations and processional art.
Late Baroque style in the culture of the XVIII century.

XVIII century

Literary and artistic rococo.
Characteristics of the Spanish Enlightenment.
The Enlightenment and renovation of the arts and literature.
Neo-classicism and its values in artistic creation.
Goya and thought in the Enlightenment.
The ideological, literary and poetic afterlife of Goya.
Goya the engraver, the first modern artist.

XIX century

The romantic revolution: those in exile and liberal Spain.
The romantic image of Spain in the travelers.
The discovery of the Orient: literary and artistic exoticism.
Novel and painting of history.
The literary genre of local customs and manners as a national bourgeois expression of the romantic peculiarity.
The political, social and artistic revolutions between 1848 and 1868: realism and late romanticism in literature and art.

XX century

Modernity and avant-garde in art and literature (1923-1936).
Avant-garde and the Exhibition of Iberian Artists of 1925.

The Civil War: the artistic and literary commitment.

Post-war art and literature between tradition and modernity.
Abstract and avant-garde art at the end of the fifties. The model of abstract American expressionism and the Spanish artistic movements.

ASSESSMENT

Attendance and participation in class will be assessed. A mid-term exam and a final will be set.

El Siglo XIX:

La revolución romántica: los exiliados y la España liberal.

3. Evaluación

Se valorará la asistencia y participación en clase. Se realizarán un examen parcial y otro al finalizar el cuatrimestre.
