In this course the student will look to give a basic and fundamental vision of the artistic principles that have occurred in the Iberian Peninsula in these two significant periods, without forgetting the historical, social, political, economical and religious factors that determined these historical stages.

Art from the Colonization period: The Iron Age and the hegemony of the metallurgy. –the impact of the Phoenicians. –The impact of the Greeks. –Tartessus, the first indigenous experience. –The Iberians. –The Celtics. –The Celtiberos.
Roman Art: Architecture and Engineering Projects- The plastic arts: sculpture and painting. –The mosaic: the ceramics.
The First Spanish Art: The Visigoths. Architecture. –Sculpture. –the articles of gold and silver
The Muslim Spain. The first Muslim art: The Califal. –Introduction to the Muslim art in Spain. –Califal architecture. –Sculpture, painting and decorative art
Christian Spain: Pre-Romanesque Spain. –Asturian Art. –Mozarab Art
Romanesque Art: Architecture. –Plastic art. –Decorative art.
Gothic Art: Architecture. –Decorative art.
The Renaissance: Spain during the 16th Century- Architecture. –Plastic art. –Decorative art. –The first manifestations of Spanish Americans.

III. Activities

As the program develops there are various visits to museums, urban areas and/or monuments of interest (Italica, Seville, The Archeological Museum in Granada, The Archeological Museum in Jaén, the Mosque in Cordoba, historical center in Granada, the Alhambra, etc.)

IV. Evaluation

A part from the regular tests, there will be a final exam that is both theory and application. Attendance, paying full attention in class and a commentary of certain books that are required to read are just as important as the final.

1. Introducción

En este curso se busca dar a los alumnos extranjeros una visión, aproximada, aunque básica y fundamental, de las principales manifestaciones artísticas que se hayan sucedido en la Península ibérica a lo largo de esas dos grandes etapas históricas, sin olvidar por supuesto los factores históricos, sociales, políticos, económicos y religiosos que las condicionaron.

Arte de la Época de las Colonizaciones. La Era del Hierro y la hegemonía de la metalurgia. La huella de los fenicios.- La huella de los griegos. –Tartessos. La primera gran experiencia indígena.- Los Iberos.- Los Celtas.- Los Celtíberos.
Arte Romano. Arquitectura y proyectos de ingeniería.- Las artes plásticas: escultura y pintura.- El mosaico.- La cerámica.
El primer arte español: los visigodos. Arquitectura.- Escultura. –La orfebrería.
La España Musulmana. Primer arte musulmán: el califal.- Introducción al arte musulmán en España.- Arquitectura califal.- Escultura, pintura y las artes decorativas.

3. Actividades.

Se podrán programar de acuerdo con el desarrollo del programa diversas visitas a museos, núcleos urbanos o monumentos de interés (Itálica, en Sevilla, Museo Arqueológico de Granada, Museo Arqueológico de Jaén, Mezquita de Córdoba, Centro Histórico de Granada, Alhambra de Granada, etc.)

4. Evaluación

Aparte de pruebas parciales, se hará una final, tanto teórica como práctica. Igualmente se valorará la asistencia a clase, la atención prestada en la misma, así como el comentario personal a algunos libros que se mandan leer.
