The Hispanic Studies (HS) track is geared toward advanced students and higher who wish to increase their knowledge of Spanish language and culture. A wide range of subjects is offered, taught by specialists from the University of Granada. Students must have a good command of the Spanish language to enroll in this track, qualifying for at least the Advanced-A level. This is generally equivalent to 4-5 semesters of university Spanish study in the US. All courses are taught exclusively in Spanish. Students begin with a four-week intensive language course. This course meets 4 hours/day, 5 days/week, totaling 80 hours. This generally transfers to 5 credits in the US semester system. At the end of the course, students take a new placement exam to ensure they qualify for the Hispanic Studies track. Students who do not qualify must transfer to the Spanish Language and Culture or Intensive Spanish Language track. After the placement exam, students enroll in 4-5 classes. All students enroll in the Oral and Written Production course. Students also enroll in 3-4 additional elective courses of their choosing. Each course meets for a total of 40 hours, which generally transfers to 3 credits in the US semester system. Classes meet 3 hours/week on either Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday. There are no classes on Friday. Academic Year students who pass all 10 courses are eligible to receive a Diploma in Hispanic Studies. Students who place at a very high level of Spanish can choose to take up to two classes with Spaniards.
