The Intensive Spanish Language (ISL) track is geared toward students of all levels who want to focus on learning Spanish. The track is available to students of all levels. Students enroll in courses on conversation, culture, and grammar. Classes are taught using a communicative approach, and make ample use of audio-visual aids. Within the Intensive Spanish Language track, there are four different language levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior. Each level has two subdivisions (A and B). Students are placed in one of the eight groups according to their test results, although extra groups may be formed which fall between the above levels, based on the number and needs of the students. The minimum number of students per group is 5, and the average number is usually 12. Classes are held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Academic Year, Semester, and Quarter SessionsStudents attend class 4 hours/day, 5 days/week, for a total of 320 contact hours/semester, or 240 contact hours/quarter. This generally transfers to 20 credits/semester, or 15 credits/quarter, in the US semester system. Intensive Month and Summer SessionsStudents attend class 4 hours/day, 5 days/week, for a total of 80 contact hours/month. This generally transfers to 5 credits/month in the US semester system. Students participating in the 6-week option will earn a total of 100 contact hours for the program. This generally transfers to 6-7 credits in the US semester system.
