Summary

OBJECTIVES
The two main objectives of the screenplay course are theoretical and practical. Firstly, students will learn about, understand and be able to explain basic concepts of analysis and film narration. Secondly, students will experiment with and undertake practical screenplay work and cinematographic writing.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The screenwriter’s profession. Basic concepts of film screenplay. The aim of screenplay. The three-act structure. The screenplay model. The first act: the beginning and exposition. The second act: unfolding of the plot: The third act: climax and denouement. Screenplay format. The characters, dialogues, adaptations. Screenplay analysis.

METHODOLOGY
A combination of theoretical classes and weekly screenplay exercises. In April, students will submit a set screenplay of a short and in June a medium-length screenplay on a given topic.

EVALUATION
Evaluation of weekly assignments, both end of course assignments and examinations each semester.
