OBJECTIVES

To learn about and understand the relationship between the different creative contributions from the artistic movements within Modernity and Post modernity, by identifying the differences, divisions and paradoxes that appear within the Renaissance tradition. To analyze and understand the artistic process as an essential formal, as well as conceptual, driving force within contemporary art

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The birth and development of contemporary art: from the age of enlightenment to the avant-garde utopia. World vision in art through history and the different theories that attempt to define the phenomenon of artistic creation.  Current art: new media for new expression

METHODOLOGY

Theoretical classes based around commentaries of images and comparative analysis. Students will also have to exhibit a work that explains the intention of a living artist who they have interviewed. There may also be a visit to the Thyssen museum as well as reviews and commentaries on films relating to the phenomenon of artistic creation

EVALUATION

Two exams throughout the course (with the possibility of passing by taking mid-term exams) or one final exam for those students who do not pass the midterm exams. The exams will consist of a test (3 points) and a commentary on images (6 points), and the presentation will be worth 1 point in case students do not meet the minimum criteria
