Study Abroad in Madrid, Spain - Excursions

Abroadco typically provides two full-day and one overnight excursion per semester and one full-day and one overnight for summer programs. Past Abroadco excursions have included the following destinations:

Seville and Córdoba

Córdoba, once the largest city in Western Europe, is a charming city highlighted by Islamic architecture, countless courtyards, and flower-draped balconies. Córdoba is one of Spain’s finest examples of the cross-section of Islamic, Jewish, and Catholic heritage.

Seville is Spain’s most charming and romantic great city. A maze of tiny streets crawls out from the center toward the breath-taking cathedral, which is the third-largest in the world. Tourists mix with locals, listening to musicians in the plazas and enjoying tapas at outdoor cafes. The city is home to flamenco and magnificent historical sites, as well as being renowned for its extraordinary celebrations.

Segovia

Segovia, a city steeped in history, has much for visitors to see and explore. Not to be missed are the Roman aqueduct, a soaring cathedral, and a medieval palace. This full-day excursion is packed with the history of Spain!

Ávila

Learn about Santa Teresa de Jesús as you explore the museums and monuments within the restored 12th century stone walls. Once you have finished your explorations within the city, take time to walk along the walls for a view of the city from above.

El Escorial

A visit to Spain is not complete without a trip to El Escorial, a 16th century complex with an immense palace, monastery, museum, and library.

Salamanca

Visit one of the oldest universities in Europe, stroll through the narrow cobbled streets, and stop for coffee in the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful plazas in all of Spain. And make sure to look for the famous frog on the main façade of the University on Calle Libreros.

Granada

Granada offers you a different perspective of Spain. The city is situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and home to the Alhambra, a Moorish palace filled with incredible art, architecture, and gardens. After exploring the Alhambra, wander through the cobbled streets of Granada; and don’t forget to visit the Albaicín, Spain’s best-preserved Arab quarter.
