Madrid, Spain - Academic Program - Language and Electives (LE)

View course descriptions for the Language and Electives (LE) track.

Abroadco offers the Language and Electives track in academic year, semester, and summer options at the Francisco de Vitoria University.

Students choosing to study for a semester or academic year take part in a specialized program that combines a four-week intensive language and culture program followed by a semester’s study in regular university classes. Although these classes are taught primarily in Spanish, every year the University offers more courses taught in English.

The four-week intensive language and culture program provides 80 semester contact hours, worth 4-6 semester credits, of Spanish language and culture. Following the four-week intensive program, students will choose four courses (45-60 contact hours for each course) from the following:

  • One humanities/general education course.
  • Two courses related to student’s major in one of the following areas:
    • Advertising and Public Relations
    • Audiovisual Communication
    • Journalism
    • Economics and Business Studies
    • Marketing
    • Biotechnology
  • One of the following
    • Internship assignment
    • Service-learning assignment
    • Third course related to major

Internship and service-learning assignments require a minimum of intermediate level Spanish and are for a minimum 240 hours. Students interested in applying for an internship or service-learning assignment must inform Abroadco prior to the application deadline. Students choosing the internship or service-learning placement will pay a $300 administrative placement fee.
