Full Description

We will look at two British and two Canadian novels written in the nineteenth century and study parallels and differences on the levels of contents and form. Is it true that British literature is the model on which Canadian writing is based? Is the "colonial"
literature really lagging behind the imperial model as far as themes and form are concerned?

Bibliography:
George Eliot, Romola
Thomas Hardy, The Return of the Native
William Kirby, The Golden Dog
Catharine Parr Traill, The Backwoods of Canada
