Aims and Content:

This seminar on economic geography deals with the interaction between economic agents (people and firms), spatial units (cities, regions, nations), and institutional conditions.  The topics of the lecture held by Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Brenner will be enhanced by seminar papers and presentations on examples for the various topics held by students. There will also be field-trips to Frankfurt and Gießen.

The topics covered by the lecture and the seminar are:

- Basic concepts of economic geography
- Choice of location by firms
- Growth processes
- Spatial perspective of knowledge creation and innovations
- Local interaction and cluster
- Globalization and regionalization
