This course is an introduction to Social Theories of Conflict. These theories are embedded in various theories of sociology, political sciences or social psychology. Common questions that arise when studying social theories of conflict are: What understanding of conflict is used in the theoretical concept? -What are the main conflict issues? -Who are the conflicting parties? -Under what circumstances do conflicts have an integrative function? -What role does violence play? -What suggestions for a peaceful conflict resolution are made? All theories will be applied to empirical examples. A course reader with basic texts will be available on ILIAS (online reading room) and in the library. The course will be held in English.
