This lecture gives an overview over the most important structures and developments of the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany. From a historical and systematic angle the following points will be discussed: The Grundgesetz (The Basic Law) on the background of the German constitutional history; basic decisions of the foreign policy 1945-55; structures of the institutions of the parliamentary democracy; the German party system with its structures and developments; federalism inclusive the financial constitution; interest groups and interest provision; media structures and the public; consequences of the German unification for the political system; interdependencies of the German and the European political system.
