Full Description

Understanding the role of religion in the post socialist societies of Eastern Europe: After being suppressed by the socialist regimes, religion has re-emerged both as a highly visible feature in the public sphere and an important political force across Eastern Europe. Based on studies from anthropology and related disciplines, the course will examine how these broad processes of change affect people's everyday lives. It will focus both on dominant churches and the emerging pluralist spectrum of New Religious Movements, Western Evangelical churches, and revitalized local pagan faiths.
