We will review theories and empirical findings on phylogenetic and ontogenetic origins and forms of prosocial behavior, situational and person-based conditions facilitating and inhibiting both short-term helping (emergency intervention) and long-term helping), intergroup cooperation, and the psychology of receiving help.
