Full Description

The specific characteristics of humans and the role of humankind in the world are currently debated in different scholarly fields. The course aims at exploring the images and roles of humans from the perspective of Christian protestant theology. The course participants will study biblical texts that are most relevant for the issue as well as their historic and theological interpretations. The course will also investigate the contribution of Christian theologians to the discourse on the human genome, the body, and social relations of humans.

Each week we will have two hours of lecture, and a one-hour seminar session. In the seminar session, texts (primary sources as well as scholarly literature) relating to the lecture will be discussed. Students are supposed to study these texts in preparation of each session.
