View course descriptions for the German Language and Elective (GLE) track.

Abroadco offers Academic Year and Semester sessions in Marburg. Students enroll in the International Undergraduate Study Program. After arriving in Marburg, students take a placement exam to determine their language level. For the first six weeks of the term, students will be enrolled in an intensive German language course, along with a German culture and history course taught in English.

For the remaining eight weeks of the program, students select two elective courses. In addition, students can take a 24 contact hour German conversation class. Courses are offered in accounting, anthropology, archeology, economics, education, English/communication, ethnology, film studies, finance, law, linguistics, media studies, peace and conflict studies, political science, psychology, sociology, and theology.  New courses are always being offered and courses offered will change from semester to semester.  The courses are taught in English, but some may have a weekly lecture in German along with the English tutorials. All of these courses are part of the regular university offerings, so German students may be in your classes.

The intensive German course meets for 120 contact hours, while the rest of the courses meet for 48 contact hours. Students generally enroll for the intensive German language course, the German culture and history course, plus two electives for a total of 17 semester credits.  Students who take the German conversation course will earn 1-2 semecter credits.
