Full Description

This course will provide a historical, cultural and business perspective on Italian Cinema, from the early 20th century until contemporary and more recent trends. Starting with the early silent one-reelers, through Fascist propaganda, Neo-realism and Comedy Italian Style, the course will provide a deeper knowledge both of the film industry and of film as an artistic form of expression. Class discussions will focus on a “textual” analysis of films. Screenplays and film structure will also be discussed.

The course maintains an historical/sociological perspective in its setting, since many movies can also be considered a peculiar “reservoir” of information about recent Italian history, lifestyle, culture, politics, economics and social transformation of the last century.
