Study Abroad in Nanjing, China - About the CityNanjing, China (population 6.4 million) is located in the Jiangsu Provence, 300 km inland from Shanghai and 1200 km south of Beijing. Situated on the banks of the Yangtze River, Nanjing is surrounded by the Ningzheng Ridge on the remaining sides. Nanjing is important both in a historic sense and also as one of China’s wealthiest and most economically developed cities. Nanjing traces its history back more than 2,500 years and is known as the capital city of six dynasties in China’s history. A cultural city, Nanjing is home to many historic and cultural sights, monuments, museums, and memorials. Some of these include the Confucius Temple, Nanjing Museum, the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, and the imperial tomb of the first Ming Emporer, Zhu Yuanzhang.
