Study Abroad in Nanjing, China - Academic ProgramAbroadco offers Academic Year, Semester, and Summer sessions in Nanjing. Students enroll in the Yangtze International Study Abroad (YISA) program at the Nanjing Normal University. Students may choose from a variety of courses taught in English, along with Chinese language courses. Students are highly encouraged to take a Chinese language class. The University of Arizona provides academic oversight for this program. All teaching faculty are hired by The University of Arizona and courses are listed in their catalog. At the end of the program, students will receive a University of Arizona transcript. Academic Year and Semester TermsDuring the semester, students can choose to take intensive Chinese language as well as electives in political science, geography and regional studies, international business, and Chinese studies. Intensive Chinese classes are worth between 8 and 10 semester credits, while electives are worth 3 credits each. Students register for a total of 19 credits. Chinese language courses are taught Monday through Friday in the morning. All other courses are scheduled in the afternoons, either Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday. Friday afternoons are reserved for class field trips and excursions. Summer TermDuring the summer, students can choose to take 1 to 2 classes. Subject areas include Chinese language, political science, and Chinese studies. The summer Chinese language classes are worth 5 credits. There is a special class for students who only want conversational Chinese worth 3 credits. Although students are not required to take a Chinese language class, Abroadco strongly recommends it.
