Full Description
COURSE DESCRIPTION This is an intensive language course for students with little or no background in Chinese. It aims to let students develop the ability to use Chinese in linguistically and socially appropriate ways. We will focus on five skills- listening, speaking, reading, writing and typing. By the end of this semester, you are expected to meet the following learning outcomes. LISTENING You will understand simple questions and answers, statements, and basic face-to-face conversations. You will also begin to develop the ability to understand basic ideas of authentic Chinese conversations. SPEAKING You will say appropriate expressions smoothly and correctly with the appropriate pronunciation and intonation. You will learn to use familiar memorized language, and start to create “your own” language by making up grammatical sentences, and by asking and answering questions. READING You will read basic Chinese, and understand the content quickly. This will be mostly at the sentence level, but will also include paragraph length texts. WRITING You will write Chinese characters you have learned quickly and correctly. You will begin to develop the ability to write short notes and descriptive letters. TYPING You will be able to type letters, e-mails, and messages in Chinese that you have learned through the semester quickly and correctly. TEXTBOOK Integrated Chinese Level 1 Part 1 2nd Edition (Simplified Character Edition)
