Full Description

Focuses on two important author/directors; Kubrick, working abroad and Scorsese, staying at home. Kubrick explored different genres, including war, epics, black comedy, science fiction, horror, and such taboo subjects as violence and sexuality, in films such as Paths to Glory; Dr. Strangelove, Lolita, 2001, Clockwork Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut. Scorsese emerged as the leading film stylist of his generation. Works studied include Mean Street, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and Gangs of New York. The particular difficulties of producing auteur films in the American commercial system are considered.
