The redrawing of international borders and transnational movements have led to the creation of Diasporas, creating complex relationships between them and their “homelands” and “host states”. In many instances, the relationships between Diasporas and host states, but also between Diasporas and homelands raise challenging questions. When and why are diasporas’ dual loyalties perceived as a threat? Do international diaspora politics represent new forms of multicultural foreign policies? In this course, attention will be given to various case-studies, drawn from history and current events.
