Summary

Teaches the fundamental concepts of simulation of complex systems, computation, and information processing by building robots using LEGO Mindstorms kit. Readymade simulation software is used to model simple physical phenomena (pendula, aggregates of objects, interacting objects). “Game of Life” and “Cellular Automata” will introduce more complex systems. Students will build robots that can show simple intelligent behaviors and interact with humans and other robots. Course examines complex phenomena, experiment design, and experiment reporting. Issues of computation, information processing, (artificial) intelligence, (artificial) societies, (artificial) culture, will be introduced via recommended readings. No prior experience in computing environments, and/or programming is assumed.
