Introduces representations of gender and sexuality in the Greek classical and European Early Modern periods. Examines art historical material and criticism and literary texts and criticism in tandem. Focuses on the cultural production of gender both as it is represented in major mainstream works, and in possible alternate self-representations by increasingly visible women artists.
