Studies the French novel with its extraordinary diversity of genres and types, from the medieval roman courtois to the nouveau roman and after. Readings include: Chrétien de Troyes's Le Chevalier de la Charette, Diderot's Jacques le Fataliste, Balzac's La Duchesse de Langeais, Proust's Le Temps Retrouvé, Céline's Voyage au Bout de la Nuit. Taught in French.
