This course will address several persistent questions about relations between Jews, Christians and Muslims in Europe. How have these religious cultures influenced each other in the region, and what are their distinctive contributions to European identity ? How have Jews, Christians and Muslims fared as religious minorities in different places and epochs ? To what extent has their interaction been characterized by harmony and cooperation, or by discord and strife ? Is the perceived “Clash of Civilization” myth or reality in contemporary Europe ? What place will these three religions occupy in Europe’s evolving identity ? A study trip has been planned to the Andalusian cities of Cordoba, Granada and Seville.
Study trip planned to Grenada, Cordoba and Seville 25-28 Oct. ( est. cost 450 euros)
