Full Description

Introduces students to French music. During the fall semester, the course focuses on the progression of vocal music from the Renaissance to the birth of opera and musical theater. In the spring, students study the evolution of instrumental music, as well as the major French works and composers and their composition techniques. Classroom lectures are supplemented by extensive exposure to recordings, allowing students to understand and appreciate the various themes explored throughout the course.
