Summary

This course focuses on the roles women have played throughout Parisian history in the religious, political, and artistic realms. Images, monuments, and texts highlight women who achieved fame (Blanche de Castille, Catherine and Maria de' Medici, Mme de Pompadour, Rosa Bonheur, Louise Michel…), but also the anonymous parisienne, at the workplace, “manning” the barricades, deported, or organizing the home.
