Paris, France - Academic Program - Sorbonne - Language and Culture (LC)View course descriptions for the Sorbonne - Language and Culture (LC) track. Abroadco offers Academic Year, Semester, Quarter, and Summer sessions in Paris. The Language and Culture Track is taught entirely at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. After arriving in Paris, students take a placement exam to determine their language level. Students are assigned to either the Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced I, or Advanced II level. All students enroll in the Cours Pratique French language program. 10 hours/week are devoted to grammar, reading, and writing comprehension. Along with this, students also enroll in the equivalent of 2.5 hours/week of language lab and phonetics. These courses form a module, and each class must be completed in order for a final grade to be issued. Students meet for a total of 140 contact hours, which generally transfers to 9-10 credits in the US semester system. View course descriptions for the Cours Pratiques and Phonetics courses. Academic Year and Semester TermsAcademic Year and Semester (Fall 2 or Spring) students are eligible to take up to 2 elective courses. Each elective meets 2 hours/week for a total of 24 contact hours/semester, which generally transfers to 2 credits each in the US semester system. Beginner electives are available in Culture, Cinema, Geography, History, and Literature. Intermediate electives are available in such areas as Literature, Art, and History. Advanced electives are available in such areas as Literature, History, Art, Geography, Economics, Social Studies, Philosophy, and Political Science. Electives are not available during the Fall Semester I program for beginners.
Summer TermsSummer students take the above Cours Pratique and Phonetics courses for a total of 12.5 hours/week.
