Objectives

To impart an understanding of decision-making by enterprises operating in an international competitive environment and of the impact that governments’ regulations have on a country’s overall international position.

The course provides overall exposure to the environmental and operational aspects of international business. The topics to be covered include: international business background, comparative environmental frameworks, theories and institutions of trade and investment, world financial environment, dynamics of international business, governmental relationships, corporate policy and strategy, functional management, operations and concerns.

Syllabus

  • Introduction to course; formalities/technicalities; introduction to international business; multinational, multidomestic and global companies.
  • Cultural, political and legal environments.
  • The economic environment; international trade theory.
  • The governments’ presence in the business sector; economic integration and trade arrangements.
  • Foreign direct investments.
  • International finance; the exchange rates.
  • The impact of the Multinational Enterprise on the countries of operation.
  • International business negotiations and diplomacy. Midterm examination.
  • Semester break.
  • Country evaluation and selection.
  • Collaborative and control strategies.
  • Marketing; operations management.
  • Multinational accounting and tax functions.
  • Multinational financial operations; human resource management.
  • Final examination.
