Offered only in the second semester, this course offers an ample explanatory framework for the fundamental topics and questions of the Spanish economy, using an accurate and global image of the main economic micro-magnitudes, indicators and politics. Syllabus 1. An overall vision of the Spanish economy.- The years of economic autosufficiency. 1939-1959.- the 1959 Stabilisation Plan.- The development years. 1960-1973.- The first petrol crisis, 1974-1979.- The second petrol crisis and the recuperation. 1979-1993.- From the boom to the recession. 1985-1994.- The future: the convergence with Europe. 2. National accounts. – Main micro-magnitudes.- The macro-economic framework of the Spanish economy.- Distribution of income in Spain.-Spatial distribution of the PIB and income. 3. The Spanish industry divided into sectors of activity.- The agriculture and fishing sector.- The energy sector.- Industry and services: evolution and future perspectives.- An axis of economic expansion: Catalunya –Mediterranean. 4. Inflation and unemployment.- The concept of inflation and some needs.- Components of the consumer prices index in Spain: comparison with other Countries.- Salaries and the evolution of labour costs.- The concept of Unemployment. Data.- Evolution of the active population, employment and unemployment: structure of employment. 5. The Spanish financial system.- Present structure.- Financial flow of the Spanish economy.- The Bank of Spain and its functions. The Spanish monetary policy.- The banking system. 6. The balance of payments and the exchange rate.- The balance of payments in Spain.- Imports and exports: their determinants.- The evolution of the exchange rate.- Implications for the inclusion of the peseta in the SME. 7. The public Sector.- Public spending.- Public income. Revenue of the Civil Service.- Regulations of economic activity: public businesses.- General Budget of the Autonomous Communities. 8. The Spanish economy and the Economic and Monetary Union.- Spain in Single Currency Europe.- Spain and the Economic and Monetary Union. A broad explicative picture of the topics and fundamental questions of the current Spanish economy will be offered, using a precise and global image of the principals of macro magnitudes, economic indicators and politics of economics.
The qualifications for this class will be two written tests, and also assignments that will be during class as it develops.

La calificación de la asignatura se realizará mediante dos pruebas escritas y se tendrán en cuenta, además, los trabajos que durante el mismo se desarrollen.
