Summary

Traces the development and survival of a number of fictional and historiographic genres of Greek literature. Considers forms of epic, romance, tragedy, comedy, lyric, satire, historical narrative, and biography in function of aesthetic and critical traditions. Selected authors: Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes, Thucydides, and Plutarch. Focuses on the cultural and generic influence of these authors on modern European literature.
