Focuses on English, German, and Italian Romanticism, from 1780 to 1820, concentrating on the open and unstable poetics of Wordsworth, Hölderlin, and Leopardi, among others. Contemporary theoretical works, including Herder, Schlegel, and Coleridge, are used to illuminate primary texts where useful, but the principal concern is the critical analysis of the poems themselves.
