Offers an overview of Medieval French literature, from the first texts in Latin to the dawn of the Renaissance, with emphasis on the magnificent twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Examines a wide variety of literary genres, the art of the writers, the interaction between popular and scholarly, religious and profane cultures. Texts include: Tristan et Yseut, Aucassin et Nicolette, La Farce de Maître Pathelin, Le Roman de la Rose. Taught in French.
