Summary

Turkey, at the intersection of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, embodies the human and cultural diversity that has arisen from its geographical setting and its history from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic. Turkey today is at the center of the ongoing debate on the limits of European integration, raising once again issues fundamental to European identity, such as “civilisation”, culture, and religion. Our approach to this country will be multidisciplinary, drawing on the fields of political sciences, sociology, as well as film, the arts, and literature. Guest speakers and specialists on Turkey from various fields will give special seminars over the course of the term. Academic work will be supported by participation in cultural activities, attendance at films, exhibitions, and other cultural events
